Binder of paints

The binder, commonly called the vehicle, is the film-forming component of paint. It is the only component that must be present. The binder is used to hold the pigment particles together and help them adhere to the surface. i e : linseed oil, tung oil, talc oil, kerosene etc.
Functions of Binder:
-The binder helps the pigment to hold on the surface of the article.
-It also forms the protective film by evaporation as by oxidation.
-It acts as a solvent.
